First of all be kind here this is my first Intel rig so I;m not sure I bought the perfect parts but I think I did a darn good job.

Intel i7 3930K six core
Intel DX79SI motherboard
Phantek PH-TC 14 PE CPU cooler
16 Gigs Mushkins Redline DDR3 2133 ram in 8 sticks
Mushkin Chronos 250 gig SSD
AMD 6990 Video card
Cooler Master RS A50 1050 watt fully modular PSU
Seagate Barracuda 1 gig 7200 rpm back up and storage drive
Antec 1200V3 case
Logitech G19 keyboard
Logitech G500 Mouse
Steel series 5Hv2 pro gaming head set
Win 7 home sp1 64 bit

This was my first shot at an Intel gaming rig and I think she will do great but your CONSTRUCTIVE thoughts would be great.

Wow, overall a very nice build.

I'm liking everything except the Motherboard. The 3930k is a really powerful CPU that has a lot of overclocking potential. Intel motherboards, however, are quite bland as evidence by their "Gear Ratio" overclocking system.

Wait 2-3 months for more motherboard options to become available (I know how slim the pickings are currently :p  ) and grab a nice Asus OC board. 5Ghz is just the start with that beast of a CPU.

I hope you meant Windows 7 Home Premium when you said Win 7 home sp1 64 bit, so that you can enjoy the fully memory capacity.

Windows 7 Home Basic is limited to 8 GB ram on X64.

FORD guy here who just switched cars... What do you think about this?

Bugatti Veyron

This was my first change of brands and I live in Alaska so please go easy...

So sick of these stupid posts.

thats a great build if you have that much money to spare, not very cost effective though.

I assume cost is no issue as he is spending 1k on a cpu that will be outdated in 2-3 years

A troll.....think not. I'm a 43 year old retired Military man who loves to game. Ive already ordered all these parts from newegg and will post pics...since if there aren't pics it didn't happen. The PSU was part of a combo you had to buy if you wanted the CPU but its a good one so I didn't mind.

Ill be going with the AMD 7990 when it finally comes out but will keep my eye on Nvidia though.

Lol, the 7990 is probably not going to come out. The 7970/50 on the otherhand will release in about a few months, you should've probably waited.

Motherboard choice I disagree with, Intel MB's just suck. Specially for Enthusiasts. The RAM was unnecessary, 16GB is a lot, but 2133 is also unnecessary, you wouldn't even have noticed the difference from that 1600. PSU I understand was a combo, but many places sell the cpu for the same price w/o having you need to buy it in a a combo. You would've been fine with a 850w.

Just my opinion though.

I invested in a 6990 still in the box about 2 months ago knowing that my Christmas present (a new gaming rig) was comming (wifey loves me) still trying to decide on the monitor situation. Do I really want to go with 3 24 inch monitors or a wait a bit....I have 2 24 inch viewsonic's now but I haven't tried the tri monitor set up yet and not sure how I would like it.

Got the whole thing together and it is fast.....I'm very impressed. I took iphone pics which ill post. One of the odd things is I cant get the memory to act as 2133, when I use the xmp setting it just crashes and reboots over and over. so Im at 1300 right now, anyone have any ideas?

Built my kid a bulldozer rig with a 6990 since I was feeling guilty that I built this intel rig....I feel better.

So any help on the ram would be grand

btw, send me all of what you have in mind so far about your computer and needs and about the help on the ram.

I will get to helping you get the best bang for your buck

P.S. a little perscriptionated atm so if you have already gone over some of these things in the above posts then just copy paste it into your reply to this message. :)

Heres the gear I used

Intel i7 3930K six core
Intel DX79SI motherboard
Phantek PH-TC 14 PE CPU cooler
16 Gigs Mushkins Redline DDR3 2133 ram in 8 sticks
Mushkin Chronos 250 gig SSD
AMD 6990 Video card
Cooler Master RS A50 1050 watt fully modular PSU
Seagate Barracuda 1 gig 7200 rpm back up and storage drive
Antec 1200V3 case
Logitech G19 keyboard
Logitech G500 Mouse
Steel series 5Hv2 pro gaming head set
Win 7 home sp1 64 bit

My 2 problems are that its not seeing the ram at 2133 and that it sees the 1 gig drive in the bios but not windows.
