will a pcie2.0 x16 card fit in a pcie x16 slot?

Yes. All PCIE x16 slots are forward and backward compatible.

Of course it will , x16 being the key thing , you will get different performance naturaly with a card designed for a 1.0 x16 and being put in a 2.0 x16 slot. The 2.0 slot will allow more bandwidth than a 1.0 slot. The card designed for a 1.0 slot will have less bandwidth then a card designed for a 2.0 slot. Confused yet? lol
