How can I upgrade a LGA 775? Or to what?

Hello,
I'm planning to upgrade my PC to another Motherboard but im not a tech expert.

Specs ;
Core 2 Quad Q9300(2.50GHz)
• 4GB DDR2 640GB HDD Capacity
• NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

Why do you want to upgrade the motherboard and which one do you have? Does your case support ATX motherboards?

Your system is somewhat dated, upgrading the motherboard will bring you no gains in performance. Your current system is at the end of it's life span, and is already a decent system for it's time. There's not much room for upgrades.

I would honestly recommend saving the money and perhaps buying a whole new system, you will get much better value for the money this way.

Yeah your best bet is to build a new system with newer hardware.
