Hi,
I'm about to buy the 6950 2Gb (And not the 570GTX)
This is a move from nVidia to AMD...

I've never been with AMD... and always loved nVidia.
What am I losing? or gaining...

Thanks!

i am using nvidia card but still i dont know why i think Ati is better.
my father has a computer with i3 2100,4 gb RAM,msi 5770 1 gb.
i usually dont play games on that computer but still once i tested its power and it(MSI 5770) ran every game(crysis,Dirt 3,forza,NFS HP 2010,Crysis 2 etc.) smoothly(35+ FPS) at high settings.ATI has better money to performance ratio with additional features.

A GTX 570 is equal to an HD 6970. A GTX 560 Ti is equal to an HD 6950. I would honestly get the 6950 simply because the performance margin between the HD 6970 and it's GTX counter-part is very slim, and games are getting demanding, so the 2GB of VRAM will come in use.

Thanks for all the answers!

The only thing that I know of, is the nVidia CUDA, which is something that is good for doing loads of math stuff on the GPU instead of the CPU... like video encoding, physics, or even fluid dynamics for example... all these are not for real-time graphics, just fast calculations...

Does AMD has anything like that?

they have but nvidia have clear lead in this field as of today since they have been pushing this kind of stuff heavily and longer than amd does

Like that huh? Me too... I thought they quit selling the cards with the switches and I bought 2 of the XFX 6950 2gb CNDC models and tried the soft mod of unlocking shaders but my cards extra shaders were laser cut so I'm unable to unlock. So I modded my registry and unlocked the clocks in catalyst and use afterburner to OC and mod my voltage.

Wish I would've known I would have gotten the Sapphire cards... you better hurry because those cards are selling like hotcakes! Keep me posted so I can sit and hate on you for you getting what I could've had!

It's pretty simple with this particular card.

#1 - download GPU-Z http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1921/TechPowerUp_GPU-Z_v0.5.0.html
#2 - remove all previous drivers
#3 - install card
#4 - install drivers
#5 - shut down machine and flip the Bios switch and reboot
#6 - open up GPU-Z and check shaders (if 1536) you're done

...as you can see my shaders are stock and there's nothing I can do about it. If the shaders aren't there don't worry it's not the end of the world... read through this thread~

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/page-316974_33_50.html

download RBE:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1962/TechPowerUp_Radeon_Bios_Editor_v1.28.html

download ATIwinflash:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1967/ATI%20Winflash%202.0.1.14.html

If for some reason the shaders aren't there I'll write you a guide as it's really simple and safe. Now if you had cards like mine with no bios switch I'd recommend you not doing it...

You can always PM bystander as he has a cool guide as well...

Don't worry, I'm envious! I wish I was in your shoes... I'm actually trying to maybe work something out so I can sell my cards and buy two of those Sapphires... My GF would love that! She HATES my computer. lol

All in all, it'll be fine...
