GPU for 2600k build

Hey all I have a build post going in the builds section http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/322994-31-2400-budget-2600k but I've hit a snag on the GPU(s). Best suggestion was getting two 3072mb GTX 580s in SLI, but they are out of my price range if I want to keep the other parts I want to buy. Here's the build set up pasted from the other thread. I've always been a fan of Nvidia, but if the suggestions lean the other way...go for it.

Why dont you go for the single GXT 580 and further down buy another.

a single GTX 580 will perform very well with todays top games.

If my eyeball math is right, you're about $90 over $2400 now with memory and dvd yet to come. Best place to look is where you are paying a price-performance penalty for the last ounces of 24/7 FPS:

- You can save >$200 with lesser 580s and OC yourself.

- You can save a bundle with 2x570, even OC'd ones.

- You could go with 1x580 for now, and add a 580 later.

- You can save $100 on the mobo by settling for less than x16-x16 (either x16-x8 or x8-x8)

Would also suggest you look at:

I wouldn't invest this amount of money in a system that's all based on a MoBo without an industry standard 3 year warranty.

Yes the 590 can run 3 screens

I did my research on the gpus and the 590 really impressed me personally, Even against the 580s sli.

Some say its just a marketing thing, but according to the benchmarks I saw, the 3gb gpus were great thats why i would go for them

Where can I find the info on the warrenty? Newegg has the board stated @ mfr limited 3 year warranty, am I looking in the wrong place?

Just to clarify what I'm trying to get figured out

The goal is high end performance on 3 monitors, the issue is I can't afford 2 of the 3072 mb flavor 580s, how much of a performance loss is there between the 3072mb and if I go with 2 of the 1536mb 580s in SLI and will it have enough VRAM for the setup.

So with the 3072mb 580s cards out of the equation, which from what I've read can easily handle the desired setup, I'm trying to find something that can compete with that performance. The numbers Jack provided seem to be based off the 1536mb flavor($480 vs $600 that the 3072mb cost), so that would leave me to believe theres a cheaper alternative to the 3072m that hasn't been suggested with. Otherwise two 750's would be my best option as suggested.

If this PC is mostly used for gaming, then drop the i7-2600k and get the less expensive i5-2500k. The extra ~$100 for the i7 get you a 100MHz increase, Hyper Threading (HT) and 2MB more cache. Games do not take advantage of HT, so you are basically spending ~$100 for 100MHz and 2MB of cache.
