Hey all I have a build post going in the builds section http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/322994-31-2400-budget-2600k but I've hit a snag on the GPU(s). Best suggestion was getting two 3072mb GTX 580s in SLI, but they are out of my price range if I want to keep the other parts I want to buy. Here's the build set up pasted from the other thread. I've always been a fan of Nvidia, but if the suggestions lean the other way...go for it.

Approximate Purchase Date: Now

Budget Range: $1000-$2400

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Blu-Ray, Internet

Parts Not Required: Keyboard, mouse, speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Neweggg

Country of Origin: US

Parts Preferences:by brand or type: Intel / Nvida

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: Yes

Monitor/TV Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (currently for TV) trying to set up for triple monitors

Additional Comments: SSD for OS, HDD for games and media, possibly looking into water cooling, going with PCIe 3 board and would like to SLI Nvidia GPUs at x16/x16. Also feel free to make suggestions on monitors as well.

Twin 560 TI's factory OC'd to 900 MHz (You can further OC to 1000MHz) will get ya 90% (862 fps) of the fps that the twin 580's (953 fps) get ya for about 40% of what your 580s cost. Twin 570's (873) will get ya 91% of what the 580's get ya or 11 fps more than the 560's.

Guru3D uses the following games in their test suite, COD-MW, Bad Company 2, Dirt 2, Far Cry 2, Metro 2033, Dawn of Discovery, Crysis Warhead. Total fps (summing fps in each game @ 1920 x 1200) for the various options in parenthesis (single card / SL or CF) are tabulated below along with their cost (based upon cheapest card from Giga, Asus, MSI or EVGA) in dollars per frame single card - CF or SLI:

Why dont you go for the single GXT 580 and further down buy another.

a single GTX 580 will perform very well with todays top games.

Thats what ill do in your situation

Thats what im gone do with the 590

will a 590 run three screens?

what sold you on the 590 over the 580?

if I go with one 580 should I stick to the 3072mb flavor?

If my eyeball math is right, you're about $90 over $2400 now with memory and dvd yet to come. Best place to look is where you are paying a price-performance penalty for the last ounces of 24/7 FPS:

- You can save >$200 with lesser 580s and OC yourself.

- You can save a bundle with 2x570, even OC'd ones.

- You could go with 1x580 for now, and add a 580 later.

- You can save $100 on the mobo by settling for less than x16-x16 (either x16-x8 or x8-x8)

Would also suggest you look at:

- OCZ Agility 3 120GB: Might be a better price/performer
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-nand-reliability,3021-3.html

- Silverstone FT02BW, a positive-pressure case that will keep the 2x580s very cool and therefore quieter as well as dust free:

$ 480.00 580 (616/953) $ 0.78 - $ 1.01

Id take the DH-14 on LGA 775 but not in SB .... For same price ya can get the Silver Arrow which is top performer and super quiet

I wouldn't invest this amount of money in a system that's all based on a MoBo without an industry standard 3 year warranty.

Yes the 590 can run 3 screens

I did my research on the gpus and the 590 really impressed me personally, Even against the 580s sli.

Some say its just a marketing thing, but according to the benchmarks I saw, the 3gb gpus were great thats why i would go for them

Just to clarify what I'm trying to get figured out

The goal is high end performance on 3 monitors, the issue is I can't afford 2 of the 3072 mb flavor 580s, how much of a performance loss is there between the 3072mb and if I go with 2 of the 1536mb 580s in SLI and will it have enough VRAM for the setup.

So with the 3072mb 580s cards out of the equation, which from what I've read can easily handle the desired setup, I'm trying to find something that can compete with that performance. The numbers Jack provided seem to be based off the 1536mb flavor($480 vs $600 that the 3072mb cost), so that would leave me to believe theres a cheaper alternative to the 3072m that hasn't been suggested with. Otherwise two 750's would be my best option as suggested.
