Comparing one hd6990 and two hd 6970 crossfire?

Im trying to figure out whats best for me. Setting up a 3 monitor gaming rig using an I7-2600k set up.

I wonder how the specs would look comparing the following info with just one hd6970 as to what two would look like?

Depends what you wants; search for "6970 crossfire vs 6990" in google and you'll find plenty of information.

It boils down to:

- 6990 is easier to manage (single card), but is a bit slower.
- 6970 crossfire is faster, but a bit more technical to set up and takes more space in your case.

If you're strictly looking at getting the fastest (FPS) performance, go with dual 6970.

Both options are viable imo for your setup.

(EDT: meant single card, not single slot.)

It's not rocket science, but you'll need to install two cards instead of just one and you'll have to connect the crossfire bridge to connect the two cards together. Then make sure your OS detects the crossfire setup, etc.

All depends on how comfortable you are with PC components. If you don't build the PC yourself then it's a moot point.

If you don't mind the extra 50$-100$ and you have the space / available PCI-E slots in your case I'd go with the 6970 crossfire setup over the 6990.

Actually, I currently own a 2600k with a single 6970 and I'll be upgrading to a crossfire setup in the next month(s).

Interesting article, a 6990 + 6970 "Trifire" is by far a more powerful than 6970 "Crossfire" (afterall you now have 3 GPUs instead of 2), but you're also looking at an extra ~300$ just for your graphic cards.

Single 6990: ~750$
Dual 6970: ~770$
one 6990 and one 6970: ~1135$

It's a bit out of my price range. But, obviously the more you spend the more power you'll get.

Also you'll need to have at least a 850W power supply to make sure you can support all that hardware.

Regarding multi-screen, I currently only have 2 monitors and I only use my primary one for gaming. I'm not using eyefinity at the moment.

Oh, and if you ever decide to go with the Trifire setup you'd definitely make this guy jealous.
