Brand new build for FPS gaming. Looking for input for a fast/reliable SSD (240-256Gb) and are you using it as a boot only or solo drive... would like to use ssd for everything but actual file downloads, music, movies etc. Thanks for the input and Happy Holidays :sol:

1. Samsung 830 256GB - $428
2. Crucial M4 256GB - 379
3. OCZ Vertex 3 regular or MAX IOPS 240GB - ~$400 after rebates.

Probably in that order based on reliability. Speedwise the OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS is on the same level as the Samsung.

Haven't looked at the Sammy yet but been reviewing OCZ RevoDrive 3 X2 series, OR STD SSD Crucial, Mushkin, and the Corsair Force GT

Thanks, I did look at that one but wasn't sure what they meant by "Stand alone". Does that mean it can be used as a boot drive or program files only? I've been trying to read up on these SSD's and darn near more confused about what to get since I wanted one to basicaly be a direct replacement for the old spinner and use the Seagate for downloads, music and movies as files only...

SSDs are a an advanced version of HDDs.they are smaller, much faster and expensive too.you may use your SSD for OS and your "main" games.use your HDD for downloads and other stuff.the one i suggested you is a very fast and good one.

Get 2 120 GB SSD and Raid 0, you will get a 240 GB SSD with much faster speed. There are many 120 GB SSD on sale for much less than 200 bucks, go for the Kingston Hyperx 120 GB or Patriot Pyro SE 120 GB and Raid 0. These sandforce drives have Garbage Collection at the Controller level, so there is no need for TRIM support (which is essentially garbage collection at the software level).

All you need to do is let the computer iddle over night and the garbage collection will kick in. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info. I was going for the Kingston till i read the rebate info. Says if you have a PO Box then you wont qualify for the 50 bucks off. So I said hell with them and got 1 120Gb Mushkin Chronos Deluxe Enhanced SSD and will add more next paycheck. Hopefully they will be as good as the ones you all have spoke of. Thanks again
