Not a bad system. Although personally I wouldn't get 2 x 580's, rather get 2 x 570's that are overclocked and use the spare money for an SSD and water cooling.

Also, why not get the Asrock Extreme7? As far as I know and done lots of research, it provides full PCIe x16 for both slots whereas all the others will work at 8x mode. Just a thought :)
for that budget, get 3gb gtx 580.you may find it weird but modern games use more than 1.2GB VRAM.and sometimes more than that.i am using that PSU.its great.that case is good for watercooling.that mobo is good but for that amount you can easily get
something better from Asus or gigabyte.

Is it only because of the GPU or because of the RAM? cuz EVGA does have 1.5 gb cards..

You can actually get a X79 system for that amount of budget and don't actually lose any performance.

Get i7 3930k, Asus Rampage IV Extreme mainboard, EVGA GTX 570 SLI and 16 GB of DDR 3 1600 Mhz CAS 9 1.5V and a Corsair AX 1200W. There is nothing out there that 2 GTX 570 can't do, it would be better to put the extra money into a 120 GB SSD like OCZ Vertex 3/Max IOPS or Patriot Wildfire/Kingston Hyperx.

Edit: If you use the computer for gaming only, Z68 system is actually more cost effective for the same performance. Just need to change the PSU to a better quality brand like Corsair AX 1200W and buy a 1.5V DDR 3 1600 Mhz CAs 9 ram, 1.65V is a bit high for Sandybridge system.

Other than personal preference is there a reason why people always go for the 580 SLI in these type builds? 3x 6950s destroy it and eliminates microstuttering at 75% of the cost. This isn't a rant, it's a legitimate question, is there something I'm missing?

I changed the GFX from
2 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 1536MB PhysX
TO
2 x EVGA GeForce GTX 580 1536MB PhysX CUDA PCI-Express 2.0,"Superclocked", GDDR5, 2xDVI, native-HDMI, 797MHz

Because the gigabyte card did not follow nvidia's PCB :)

EDIT: another change that just has been made is that im gonna go with the ASRock Extreme 7 gen 3 MOBO :) so thx alot Pezonator
