Which DVI to VGA adapter for 4870 x2

Hello, i just received a new 4870 x2 recently and it didnt come with a DVI to VGA adapter. Went to my closest electronics store (best buy) and i seem to have gotten the wrong one (DVI-I). I cant seem to get a direct answer online anywhere, its driving me mad. So if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

More about which adapter 4870
  1. Welcome to the forum, that's it

    here is one on newegg
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812267001
  2. This looks exactly like the one i bought from best buy, no difference but it didnt fit into my graphics card. Its so strange
  3. I'm assuming your 4870x2 has two DVI ports since as far as I know all 4870x2's came that way. It's possible that one port is a DVI-I port and the other is a DVI-D port. You have the right adapter as of the two only the DVI-I port/adapter can output/pass an analog signal that can be used via VGA. Have you tried the other DVI port?
  4. Oh, it didn't fit? Then you may have gotten a VGA to DVI adapter.

It's really strange, just make sure that there's no pins twisted.... do you have a problem fitting it into the card ? or you getting no signal ?
  6. Take a pic of the ports on your GPU with nothing in them. Post it here. that would help a ton.

    thanks !
  7. http://www.tecca.com/product/dynex-and-153-dvi-to-vga-adapter/ this was the adapter.

http://img.hexus.net/v2/graphics_cards/amd/HD4870X2/Rear-big.jpg looks just like this, but made by visiontek

Vga fits in just fine, but the dvi would not go into the g-card.
  8. It's the right adapter according to the pics you posted. You checked to make sure no pins were bent right?
  9. I figured out the problem. The dvi adapter metal socket (the metal surrounding the pins to hold it securely in place in the dvi slot) was slightly bended inwards all around, a dynex design choice. So i bent back the metal and now it fits perfectly and snug. Thanks everyone anyways for you help!
  10. glad that you did it
