I have a Gigabyte 970-D3 motherboard, and was wanting to try using CrossfireX with two Radeon 6870's. It is a x16/x4 setup, but from what I see that should be fine as it's PCI-e 2.1.

From what I have been able to find, some places say this board is capable of supporting CrossfireX, while I have seen a few places say it doesn't. Does anybody know definitively if it does or not? I would hate to buy a second card and be unable to use it.

Thank you.

It definitely supports CrossfireX. The reason people say that it doesn't is because x16/x4 is suboptimal. You will get an increase in performance from adding a second card but it won't be as high if you had used a board with an x8/x8 split.
