First build - Can't understand why MoBo won't boot properly...

I am putting together my first build. If I plug in the 24 pin from the PSU to the MoBo, it will turn on (fans spin, cd drive works, graphics card fan comes on, CPU fan is on, etc.) but will not go to POST. If I plug in the 6 pin AND the 24 pin, nothing happens. No power to anything. Am I doing something incorrectly? Any help appreciated. Specs as follows:

MSI 970A-G46 Motherboard
AMD FX-4130 CPU
MSI 6450 Grpahics Card
(2) X 4 GB DDR3 RAM
Toshiba 1TB HDD
485W PSU

If I left anything out, let me know.
Thanks in advance.

More about first build understand mobo boot properly
  1. Make sure that the CPU power is from the correct cable (not from the PCI cable).
  2. make sure the mb not shorting to the mb tray. the o\i shield or the cpu heat sink. also check that the cmos jumper and cables are on right.
