Graphics card for ~$100

Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards Graphics card for ~$100

Word :    Username :

Hello everyone. I've been trying to decide on a card like a 6670 or a 6770 or anything comparable for around $100.

System: HP pavilion e9150t
i7-920 2.66GHz
6GB DDR3
GT 220
Delta DPS-460DB 460W
+3.3V 17A
+5V 13A
+12Va 16A
+12Vb 15A
+5Vstb 2A
+12Vc 8A
HP 21.5" LCD 1920x1080

upgrading the psu isn't an option right now, as im trying to stick to my budget as best i can. I really just want to make sure i can even run these gpus with this power supply and not have to worry about it. I'd like a card that can handle these new games that are coming out, though im not concerned with having them run at my monitor's full resolution- just as long as they run smoothly and look good. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you

The 6770 would be the better of the two. I do highly suggest replacing that PSU ASAP, even $50 would get you a good PSU.

$45 Antec NEO ECO 400W

$50 Antec NEO ECO 520W ($10 off)

a 6770 draws about 108-110 watts so i think it could work, but if you cant buy a new psu right now then its still worth a shot, if you want a psu upgrade i suggest this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817371035
$69.99 Antec 500W, it might be a little too expensive but its at least 80 plus bronze certified which is the minimum for a good psu which most others aren't. (remember when buying a psu to at least look for the 80 certified)

Both of the ECO NEO's I posted are 80+, as is the Silverstone. 80+ claims are being falsified by cheaper manufacturers anyway. so 80+ is not the end all be all.

^NO NO NO. 80plus can be very misleading, google articles on any reputable hardware site and they explain how 80plus certification means nothing. You need real life tests because efficiency is calculated in low temperature environments which are not representative of normal cases and how oems can cheat the system by rebranding a existing certified model and modifying it in undesirable ways with it still having 80plus certain.

In addition efficiency is ONE metric of many to determine if a power supply is good. Smh. Read power supply reviews on individual lines. Wattages too if you can. Antic IS a generally good brand but google what you're buying first. 80plus cert has trash models that endanger your computer as well as very solid ones.

I have am ocz Stealthxstream II 600w and it's not 80plus bronze. It's just 80plus. It is more than fine and I do not lose more than 50cents a year rather than if it was a bronze. Look it up and 1234567890's advise is overly simplistic and potentially misleading.

6770 can be 85 with rebate, I suggest that as well.

If you can wait the HD 7xxx series is coming out by the end of the year
so
A) existing 6xxx should drop in price
b) the new $100 price point card in the HD 7xxx might be kick butt

I am not a very patient person myself so I understand if you dont want to
wait :)

I am definitely not a patient person myself, it depends like king said, but it all comes down to if you want to wait.
