Should I get cheaper phenom or 2500k

Ok guys, my current system is AMD Athlon ii x4 645, 4gigs corsair xms3, MSI gtx 560, OCX vertex 3, and corsair 650w psu..

ok so my dillemia is this, my athlon still runs fine, but it is getting a little slow. I was looking at upgrading to either a 2500k or maybe a quad or 6 core phenom. I mainly use my system to run games like bf3.

so of course the 2500k is better then any amd cpu out there, but i would rather not have to spend the money on a new motherboard and cpu... so i guess my question is, will i notice that much of a difference between the athlon and the phenom or should i just save my money and get an i5?

More about should cheaper phenom 2500k
  1. You wont notice a huge difference the Phenom II is a logical cheap upgrade for you

if you can afford it i bet 2500k is tempting lol

Personally I would toss in a Phenom II while they are still around and ride your rig for the mileage still in it.
  2. It all depends on what you are expecting.

What are you doing on the computer that makes you feel the althlon is too slow?
  3. The difference between your CPU and another AMD CPU is minimal concerning money spent/performance gained.

If you want to upgrade to make a difference, go Intel or overclock your CPU if you haven't already (you didn't mention it).
  4. What motherboard do you have? Will it take a 125W CPU like the Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition or Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition?
  5. i have the asus m4a88t-v evo
  6. Your board handles the 125W CPUs like this
    3.7Ghz Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition ~$160 plus $15 off w/ promo code EMCNGJE26, ends 3/21
