Hi all

I need to build a server to store my movie collection. At most 2 PC's will be streaming movies at the same time.

I need about 6 x 3TB drives with the possability of upgrading to 8 in the future.

Originally I was going to build a fast i7 PC with lots of storage but thinking thats not really what I need.

I just want something that runs quiet, low power and is fast enough to stream 2 movies at same time.

Any suggestions on case, MB, processor, ram etc?

I have considered NAS but prefer a server.

an i3 could cut it. I dont think you need that much processing but if u want to be safe get an i5. You dont need that good of a computer for a storage server. I used an old dl 360 with dual exons and 4 gb of ddr1 ram and it could stream 4 movies at once with no lag. Also get a raid card and a good ethernet card. They will both increase your speeds, and if u really want speed try ubuntu server. Its hard to use but very fast.

Yeah I was thinking an i5 processor, don't think I need an i7 for my needs.

I'll prob go with 8GB ram as its cheap enough.

High end raid card would be needed.

Would I need an ethernet card? Assuming MB will have Gigabit ethernet port?
