Yes I can unlock cores on the 550, however that isn't something I want to do. I should have said will the x2 550 bottleneck the new GPU I choose.

Thanks for the suggestions, the build I had in mind is similar to the one zero_ suggested.

How does the 6950 compare to the 560ti ?

I would suggest unlocking the 550. Mainly since it'll give you a pretty good boost in perf.

As for the 6950 vs 560 Ti. w/o overclocking the 6950 1GB and 2GB is roughly 8% better than the 560 Ti.
