Good build for $800< ?

Current build:

phenom II X2 550
4gb ddr2
powercolor 5770
500w psu
WD 500gb HDD
resolution: 1920X1080

The case, HDD, and cd drive will be used in the new build, is the x2 550 salvageable or would it be bottlenecking the gpu?

Thanks.

  1. hmmmm , can you unlock cores of your x2 550, 5770 cannot bottleneck a x2 but yeah, dual cores are not recommended for gaming

    Yes I can unlock cores on the 550, however that isn't something I want to do. I should have said will the x2 550 bottleneck the new GPU I choose.

    Thanks for the suggestions, the build I had in mind is similar to the one zero_ suggested.

    @aznshinobi

    How does the 6950 compare to the 560ti ?
  5. I would suggest unlocking the 550. Mainly since it'll give you a pretty good boost in perf.

    As for the 6950 vs 560 Ti. w/o overclocking the 6950 1GB and 2GB is roughly 8% better than the 560 Ti.

    How would I go about unlocking the 550?

    I looked into it a little bit more, and sadly my motherboard (asus m3n78-vm) doesn't support core unlocking =/. Thanks for the guide though , it may come in handy one day.
