A friend recently purchased a second 6870 to run a dual card config. The two cards are both XFX 6870's, but it seems there is a difference in their bios'. These are the cards:

This is the Mobo (ASRock Extreme4 Gen3):

Do these video cards Crossfire?

Can they be made to Crossfire?

Any information regarding a Crossfire setup is welcome...thankyou.

Thank you both.

I kind of want more info. though. Anything related to Crossfired setups. Why would it go wrong? Enabling CF disables the 2nd card. Disabling CF allows the 2nd card to display apparently, but no Eyefinity can be used without CF.

Please and ty where applicable. =)

As far as i know, you can flash both cards with the same bios (you should do this with the bios from the lower clocked one).
This is probably some driver issue. Does your friend use both crossfire bridges? Normally you can use only 1 but two are recomended.

As far as i know eyefinity works on 1 gpu only, but i doubt 1 6870 has the muscle to make it work. Also try updating your drivers. Sometimes even if they dont have anything "new", getting a new driver ersion will clean up any default settings that might interfere with the crossfire setup.

Thanks Paw,

I will relay the info.

As far as flashing the GPU bios... does ATI supply the bios'? I did not know it (whether flashing was available), but was thinking along the same line.
