Ecc & Non-Ecc meaning?

What's the difference between these two? And are they a factor in choosing memory?

More about meaning
  1. ECC stands for Error Correction Code. Memory with it will look through the data looking for errors and if it finds some it will correct them. ECC memory is basically only for Servers, and isn't needed in normal PCs. It also brings down performance a little bit.

  2. Score one for Gizely, he's right!

  3. For most systems, non-ECC RAM is used. And I don't think that you can mix these two RAM types together.

  4. ECC and non ECC is also known as parity and non parity, I dont know how much diff it makes as the non parity has a error correcting programme anyway
