GPU upgrade question 4870 to 6950

Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards GPU upgrade question 4870 to 6950

Hey all! Long time lurker, first time poster.

Anyway, I am looking at upgrading my GPU and have my eye on the GIGABYTE GV-R695OC-1GD Radeon HD 6950 1GB.

My current setup is as follows:

Intel Q9550 oc'd to 3.4ghz
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB
SILVERSTONE DA700 700W ATX 12V
Monitor is 1980 x 1080

My main question is it worth the upgrade if used mainly for gaming? I'd like to get a couple more years out of a $200-300 upgrade before doing a new build down the road.

Also, do you all see any issues such as bottlenecking with going with the 6950?

Thanks in advance!

You should be good to go. An OC'd Q9550 should be fast enough to keep up with a HD6950 at that resolution.

Also, good card. IIRC it won the TH HD6950 roundup?

Yes agree, your system is still decent enough to run HD6950 without problem.
Hmm, your board pcie slot is 2.0, right?

It is.

And thanks for the replies. Just wanted to see if it was "worth" the upgrade in getting a decent performance gain for my dollar.

6950 is best choice.

Check link and see the difference between 4870 and 6950.
