Ok Everyone, as you all know the 680 just come out. WHich it will bottle neck my current FX 6100....

SO i have two questions....

If i get the Phenom, which Phenom can i get that won't bottle neck just one GTX 680

What Phenom SHould i get, and if i get a Phenom X6 will i need to re install windows as....Ofcourse i had to install windows and update bios on a Phenom 955, then put FX 6100 in which was another hardware change. Can i change it out one more time without having to do a windows Repair?

More about : fx6100 phenom

Just because you don't need to swap CPUs right away...
How about keeping your FX-6100 and waiting for the complete benchmarks to roll out?

Even if do grab an early GTX 680 - you can always upgrade the CPU later, once you find out exactly how well (or how badly) your specific games are running for you.

Yea, Plus i am already running a after Market CPU cooler. Look Below!. Its A Corsair A70. So if i need to Over Clock i will. But i may just wait for benchmarks. What i want to know is wheat the lower end kepler cards are gonna do

CPU:AMD FX 6100/CPU Cooler - looked too much like the stock cooler.
OK, yeah the A70 dual fan cooler is really quite good.

Best bet for now is to sit tight and not jump till you find a good reason you REALLY need to spend some extra money.

Yea, well my current performance is a little acceptable. but the only issues i run into is when Explorer.exe comes up in my task manager just eating up like 30% of my CPU doing what?, its the architecture of my OS i understand but still. Its like i have to restart my computer every time i want to get good performance for BF3 . I looked at the Phenom 975 and its about 150$. i could sell my ASUS DCII for about 130 or 150$ on Ebay. and perhaps get a GTX 680 with easter and graduation money

Your dual GTX 560ti SLI is getting you better than GTX 580 performance, right?
Why would you downgrade with a single GTX 580?

Because its bottle necking my CPU....Graphics wise i should be able to run the game on Ultra maxed out with two 560 ti's. But instead at times i have to bump down the graphic settings to medium to get the same frame rate.

GTX 580 would do the same thing.
What resolution is your monitor? 1920x1080? What's your frame rate goal?

And I think you got it backwards. Your CPU is bottlenecking your GPUs.

Well thats the problem, I don't know how to overclock. Even with a youtube video. I don't know how to change multiplier and set the right voltages. because i am scared i will mess my system up

Yea and copy their voltages and clock speeds...

Another note. Like i said. This Bottle Necking only happens when this random Explorer.exe is running in the back ground eating up my OS> Usually its not runing but some times it just decided oh i think ill handy cap him today and kill 30% of his performance doing nothing

The Clear CMOS jumper on your Sabertooth 990FX MB will reset things to default if you make a change that didn't work well.

Have you read the motherboard manual yet?

Even after i close up everything with nothing else running in the back ground. I check my System Monitor and its constantly running random 50% but will no current processes in task manager

I'll have to check. But i think i see where you are going.

You think i have a virus but, I have run so many Anti Virus Full scans. Hard drive Defraggs and it still comes up. I am thinking about just getitng a Core i5 and hopefully a 11115 motherboard for a good deal. Because there is no better performance then Intel. AMD was a sort of let down.....

Not necessarily a virus. Or even a rootkit (they can hide from AVscans).

A while back someone with the same problem found he'd left his P2P file sharing client running.

You'd probably know if you have a torrent client like Bittorent, BearShare, Frostwire or eMule running.

When the system is idle what is next most active process besides Explorer?

Something you could try.
When the system is idle and Explorer @ 30%... disconnect from the internet.
Does anything change over the next 5 min or so?
What programs complain about not being connected to the 'Net?

I don't use any illegal software so.....that ends that. So there fore it couldn't be that. I have a clean hard drive. No illegal content. or......this Sexual content known as Porn so......
I am a clean Citizen nothing which would involve me with copyright breachings. I don't even touch any of those applications

Ill try that. when i get home. i am currently at work

WR2 is a stud, very wise 'ol man'... ;)
he's right in all seriousness, let's clock it first but I still say get off that FX chip.

cheers.

WR2 - nice to see ya.

Yea i am, ill probably get a Six core 1100T if i can find one still. if not ill be getting a 980

Even if it's not my money I don't enjoy suggesting people spend theirs to upgrade a new system that 'didnt quite make it'.

But it's looking like you'll be more happy with a better CPU than a few extra bucks in your pocket.

What are the chances you could see sell the MB/CPU/RAM/ASUS CUII GTX 560 ti as a package? That's risky - but if your serious about a Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge option it seems the way to go.

The safe move is one of the faster quad/hex core Phenom IIs.

Hello mal - good to see Yoda still hangin' in there.

@ Rockdpm;

I hate sayin' you need buy a new CPU so soon. Want to hang in a while, try a bit of overclocking and see what happens in the next few weeks?
Maybe make plans for a summer upgrade?

I am gonna go ahead and grab a Phenon 980....I think i can get a new one off Amazon or Ebay Brand new, for the same price as new egg's OEM version

I don't know if i should just buy it from newegg tho.

Amazon is fine. On eBay make sure you check who you're dealing with and that you're comfortable with them.

It's clear the FX-6100 doesn't quite match the quality of your other parts.
Hope you can find someone to give it a useful job. It's actually a decent CPU for a majority of people. Just not quite what serious gamers are looking for.

Hi :)

Whoa...you forgot to mention he might wreck his motherboard completely and his cpu if he gets it totally wrong.....and as he has no overclocking experience, there is a fair chance of that :(

All the best Brett :)

Very true. Which is why from now on. I buy my CPU's around the clock speed i want and not have to do too much boosting

Thanks Brett

Aww come on give them a try! I own a Phenom II X4 955 that I love! I have the same motherboard as you and I can safely say I have never owned a better AMD motherboard. I was new to overclocking just like you when I got the sabertooth and 955 but with some help from friendly people on toms hardware I have my Phenom at 3.8ghz per core matched with a hyper212+. Not only now is my processor faster but it runs cooler than it did with all stock settings in the bios. With the newest bios update for the sabertooth 990fx it had my stock voltage at 1.39v at 3.2ghz now its at 1.34v 3.8ghz with lower temps now.

My advice would be sell the fx chip and get a phenom II X4 get it in the range of 3.6ghz - 3.9ghz per core and sell the 560's to get a gtx 680 (Wait a couple months till aftermarket cooling versions come out) and there will be no bottleneck :D

I got hold of a 1100T, it has enough pony in it to run my dual 480's oc'd to stock 580 clocks without to much chugging, bearing in mind I am running SLI which is relatively new to AMD setups.

I don't see why you need to now change platforms to Intel nor do I see a single 680 really bottlenecking a FX 8000 or X6 1090/1100T considering a 7970 doesn't bottleneck a Pentium G620

thanks for the comment , i ordered a phenom II X4 980. hopefully the gtx 670 or 680 won't be bottlenecked

wow really?, that gives me hope. i didnt get a six core because they are a little hard to find. so i got the best x4 they make. the phenom ii 980. hopefullly no bottle neck
