Upgrading from gtx 460 $300-$350 Budget

Note: I could go a bit higher if needed but only if it is very worth it, My overall max is probably 350 but only if needed.

When you do decide to upgrade your video card are you going to sell the gtx 460?
If so how much and what brand is it?

yes i would be selling, its a PNY Xlr8 edition its barely used so probably about $150 give or take

sebago area its about a 20 minute drive from portland

so the 570 is worth $50-100 more than a 6970? because with the card im looking at i can buy it for 260$ (240 after rebate) and unlock to a 6970 with the dual bios dont see how the 570 is worth 100 more

You can get a new MSI Hawk GTX 460 is just $160 on Newegg and it has a $30 MIR. Best version of the card you can buy.

I've been doing some looking around as to what a GTX 460 cost. In fact Newegg is my favorite place to do a price check. Plus if I buy new I have the
manufactures warranty.

Why not run another 460 in SLI?

It was NOT a hijack; it was a comment indicating that expecting to get $150 on your old card is not realistic. You might get $100-$120 for it.

Anyway, before spending lots of money, consider that that BF3 spec suggests a GTX560. So, go a notch higher and get either the GTX560Ti or the HD6950 (do NOT count on unlocking it to a HD6970; those cards are apparently no longer being made). You'll spend $250, not $350, and if you get $100 for your old card, you'll be doing pretty well for only $100 net.

Thanks for the advice, but please just send him a pm next time, and I already know the card can get shaders unlocked with its dual bios switch.

The 6950 don't come with dual bios switch now. AMD stopped it and I can't do it to my card.
If you have $350, get the EVGA Classified GTX 570 or the MSI 6970 Lightning. Both are the best at that price for a single card.

+1. Grab an other 460 (THe 460 hawk costs 129$ after rebate at newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... ) it would give you enough performance till kepler or southern islands. Then you can spend something like 300$ to get a killer gpu.

Does your mobo support SLI? Do you have a PSU that can run a pair of GTX460s? If so, I agree with them that, unless you know you're sensitive to microstuttering, that would probably be the way to go.

6950 and then crossfire later imo. Firmware them bad larry's to 6970's and enjoy.


If you're looking for ultra settings or close to ultra on one card, crossfire or sli only way... best bang for the buck.

Yes, I was talking to the other guy who had already changed the subject of the thread to him being interested in your old card. It was a subject you seemed to have no problem with as you had already gone back and forth with him about it a few times, in the thread, not PM. I chime in on the subject and somehow it mysteriously becomes thread jacking that I should have kept to PM. I'm sure if I had said "That's a great deal, take it" rather than suggesting a better option you would have considered it totally on point.  

FYI it is not a dual BIOS that allows one to unlock an HD6950, that just makes it easier/safer. Whether or not it can unlock depends on the individual chip you end up getting. The Dirt 3 Sapphire card has over 100 reviews on Newegg and user reports are quite mixed on whether it will unlock. So if you end up going for that card hope for the best but don't count on it working for certain.

Sell the 460 put a 580 in there sit back and have a smoke and a pancake. Or you can get the 570 and use the 460 for physx or door stopper your choice
