I currently have a intel i5 750 processor, I am able to get the i5 2500k cpu for $140 out the door brand new. Shouldi upgrade? is it worth it? I wanted to put in a bigger SSD anyways and was planing to do a clean install should i just do it all at once? thanks for your help!

Tough call, the 750 is still a solid processor. The i5-2500k with a Z68 Board will cost about $260, I would do it. If you install the ssd on the new motherboard will save you reinstalling the os twice.

any recomendations for a good board? to pair it with?

Ivan1984 has given you good advice. The Intel® Core™ i5-750 is a good processor that should still hold it's own except for in overclocking. If this is for a gaming computer and you arent planning on overclocking then you won't see a lot of difference between these two processors.

Adding an SSD to your system and using it as a boot drive may give you the best overall performance boost for a reasonable cost. The Intel SSD 520 120GB will give you great performance and reliability with a 5 year warranty.
