  1. It's probably best to ask Dell tech support.

apparently the motherboard only supports Pentium 4 5XX/6XX Processors 2.8-3.8 GHz
so dual core processors are not supported

How do you know what an old motherboard will support? I have a HP dx2200MT with socket 775, and I want to upgrade my Pentium 4 CPU. I can't establish the exact model of the motherboard. The HP website has technical specifications but does not give a lot of detail about the motherboard. CPU-Z shows the board as an MSI oa48, but the MSI website does not show that model, or any models ever starting with O.

I'm thinking about a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 for $99. Any thoughts?
