Good day,

Last xmas I built a budget gaming rig for my son. . The rig has
8GB memory
ASRock 870 EXTREME3 Mobo
AMD Athlon II X340 with 1 core unlocked.
Corsair CMPSU-650TX
AMD HD 6850 GPU
Rosewill Challenger AXT Mid Tower Case

The rig seems cpu bound and i think we have 2 options.
1) replace cpu AMD Phenom II X4, but I don't think that will help much
2) upgrade from ADM chipset to Intel Chipset.

If we upgrade to Intel what recommendation for value priced MOBO and butter cpu but still in the budget or slightly above budget categroy? I like the ASrock we have and would like to maintain crossfire compatability.

Thanks for the help.

You have a nice rig. But I would reccomend you to upgrade your processor to Phenom II X4 965 and a Radeon HD 6950 for GPU. Don't worry, your PSU will handle this upgrade just fine.

Phenom by a long shot. After that, another 6850 in xfire or an SSD would be the best bang for buck. A new Intel CPU/MoBo is pretty far down the list actually.
