Question about turbo boost of 2600k

So I've been testing a Intel 2600k cpu under 100% load using prime95 and I get this result:

I am slightly confused as it reads 3.5ghz, I thought it was meant to auto-boost to 3.8ghz when it needed too? Is this because it is a quad-core cpu and each core will boost up by .1ghz each?

  1. Those are expected results. Run a single thread of Prime95 and see what happens.

The maximum for one core at stock would be 3.8. 2 cores it's... 3.6 maybe?

You can change this of course in the BIOS, but then that's overclocking and may require better cooling.
