my setup ... Dell Dimension 4600
3 Ghz, 2.5Gb RAM Win-Xp-sp3
Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 AGP

After all these years, I connected 2nd video-DVI output to
my HDTV via a DVI-HDMI cable ....

Video works fine . ( dual monitor ,,, clone or extended .. )

but ...

I get no sound via HDMI @ HDTV ...hmmm ???

The problem seems ...
in system device manager .. there are
NO : ATI HDMI Audio devices ... none

only the on-board audio junk is listed.. so ...

1) I disabled the on-board video

2) installed ATI hotfix 11.9 fo XP-home-32bit

3) I installed the ATI audio driver stuff ...
ATI HDMI Audio Driver 11.9

... no joy .. no ATI HD audio devices ...

Help appreciated ...

thnx

Solution
Dvi only outputs video so even though you're converting it to a hmdi connection, it's still only video. This also explains why you have no ati audio device, the card does not have hdmi.

thnx a lot ... lol ...
I was afraid that was the answer ...

So , can you suggest an appropriate AGP video card which
DOES include HDMI-audio and video output
( note: no gaming here )

thnx

p.s. .... fwiw:
after I canceled comcast cable ,,,
and maximized the available, over the air broadcast receptions
... I was hoping to stream some other network programming via PC ...

Reading more reviews on it, it seems to have an issue with windows default drivers, which would be a problem since you need to install the driver after installing the card. This is another card I found, better reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125281

Edit: The 3650 you have does have dual link dvi, which is supposed to also output audio but I can't find anything specific for the card. I did read only one of the dvi connections outputs audio on the 3000 series, have you tried both?

=================================================
thnx for your continued advice ....

a) re: Sapphire HD 3650 AGP :
Yes, I connected cable to both DVI outputs...
But, either way, WinXp cannot seem
to install any ATI HD audio drivers/device ( only onboard-audio junk )

I read in a couple of forum posts, that
the AGP bus cannot connect audio.

And after reviewing the Sapphiretech.com specifications ,
I cannot find any reference to audio...

I think audio from Sapphire AGP HD 3650 is a "non-starter" or "dead-horse".

b) I also discovered & liked the gigabyte AGP adapter, but
I can't justify it's $80 cost, just to get
HDMI sound streamed from my old-PC to a HDTV ...

note : I am now researchiing something like the $80 RoKu box and
even reviewing the capabilities of my Sony BDP-S570
that I had used to play my (now canceled) Netflix streams.

thnx,

O T
