Hello,
Hi, I have 8G of ram but for some reason even though my computer regonizes the 8G it says display ram is only 4G and when I check "my computer" I only see 4G. It was 8G a week or so ago.
I'm assuming I have to take my computer in right? What happened? Why the sudden change?

Here is my computer's bios

display memory is the amount available to your video card - some onboard, some shared with the system. in the top section it shows that you have 8GB system memory total.

But why did it shrink to from 8G to 4G when I go into my computer and check system properties?

You mean the same window that comes up if you right-click on "Computer" and select properties? I have no idea what could cause that. If one stick of ram (presuming you're running 2x4GB) was defective, Windows would be unlikely to instantly detect that to change the amount shown. If one module was improperly seated, I think you'd be seeing worse problems.

Okay you know when you go into control pannel right?
Then you see my computer/system properies that displays your system information (there is where you would see window's rating of it) I use to see 8G of ram now I see 4G of ram.

I checked my system configeration and it is only regonizing 4G of ram. I tried to increase the max by 4G was the max. I even deslected the max and nothing changed?

I'm not smart enough to know how to fix the problem...but I did notice the following:

Display Memory: 4050 MB

I doubt that your video card has 4GB of RAM. It looks like your system/windows is allocating 4GB of your ram to video.

******

Also from MS:

This behavior can occur for any of the following reasons:
•Himem.sys is not using all the memory on an EISA computer.
•A driver or program loading from the Config.sys or Autoexec.bat file is claiming a portion of random access memory (RAM).
•A virtual device driver loading from the System.ini file is claiming a portion of RAM.
•A protected-mode driver is causing the memory mismatch.
•The registry is damaged.
•A CMOS setting is disabling some of the RAM.
•You have the "maxphyspage=" setting in your System.ini file set to restrict Windows from using some of the installed memory.
•Ramdrive.sys is being loaded in the Config.sys file.
•You are using a video adapter that is integrated into the motherboard.

Hi please keep in mind I don't know alot about computers so if the bellow questions are obvious sorry.
Allocating 4G to the video isn't good right?
Can it mess up your computer?
Does this seem like my graphics card is at fault?

If windows is allocating memory to a dedicated graphics card, it is not harmful, just unnecessary.
If you are using onboard graphics, then windows would allocate RAM to perform that function. A dedicated card has its own memory so Windows shouldn't have to allocate RAM for graphics.

I've never actually encountered it happening before...so it is a guess that the fix would just require a settings change in order to release that RAM up.
Sorry for not being smarter to give a little more specific advice.
