I was wondering if this was a decent sound system and if its possible to play it through my computer.

First off is the speakers http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SS-B1000-8-Inch-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B000OG88KY/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1324413865&sr=1-3 (Sony SS-B1000-RCA)

and the subwoofer http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-10-Inch-Monitor-Subwoofer/dp/B0002KVQBA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324411619&sr=8-1 (Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch Monitor Series Powered Subwoofer-RCA)

I have a ASUS P8P67 DELUXE motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131701

Im wondering if its possible to have these as a sound system for my computer and how would i do that? Do i need a stereo receiver or would this work?

2 RCA Y cables to 3.5mm jack http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-Stereo-design-accomodates-smartphone/dp/B004YEBK66/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1324416785&sr=8-5

then both of those going into a 3.5mm splitter http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F8V234-WHT-Speaker-Headphone-Splitter/dp/B00009WQSR/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1324416891&sr=1-1

then that splitter going into my motherboard. Would this work best or how should i do it?

You definitely need to have a receiver/amp to power those floor-standing speaker and sub. Don't think the onboard sound of the P8P67 can handle that.

Then connect from your computer to the receiver and make sure it's in the right output

Actually what I do when I hook my TV up to my parents' sound system I run a two-prong red/black amplifier converter cable to auxilary and you can pick that up at any Radio Shack for like $5 and it'll allow you to hook your PC up to basically any hi-fi audio system.

Yeah they're powered off your amplifier.

Yes it will work in the arrangement that you have described. (I have done this before running a dual RCA to 3.5mm stereo jack conversion. I'm not sure if it is a good system, but have you considered the Logitech Z623 (2.1 THX system) http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-980-000402-Speaker-System-Z623/dp/B003VAHYTG/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1324419564&sr=1-2

I purchased one of these recently and they are a very good 2.1 system.
