Thunderbolt ports on motherboards and Firewire Devices on Windows

Hi,

I am noticing that many motherboard are now not featuring Firewire which is a disaster for me as I have a external FW sound card.

I am thinking of building a mini itx system and wondered if it is possible to connect a FW soundcard to a Thunderbolt port using a converter such as

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD464ZM/A/thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapter

but on a Windows 7 64 system.

Is TB to FW a bad idea like USB to FW converters where you are not actually using the FW bus, just some dodgy conversion?

Any experiences?

Also any mini-itx boards with FW that could be reccommended would be great.

Thanks

Thanks for this. Seems like the perfect solution then.

Now it's late 2014 and was wondering if you bought a mobo with thunderbolt and successfully used an apple adapter for the firewire soundcard? hardly ANY firewire boards out there any more.
