Idle temp running at ~37*C. Under load (Prime95) I hit 80-81*C in about a minute. Using stock fan/sink. They are installed correctly. Cooler Master HAF 922 case. I hit a max of 70*C playing Crysis 2 on Hardcore. Does Prime95 really just hate that CPU? Should I be worried? I understand I'll notice a difference rolling with an aftermarket fan/sink but I'd rather not have to deal with removing everything again and re-tinting, etc.

If you want to prolong the lifetime of the CPU, buy an aftermarket CPU cooler(air/liquid), its a good investment. High temperatures is the number one enemy of any electronic chips specially CPU. Warning don't do that again running Prime95 with stock heat sink a no no.

Yeah, definitely don't play on running Prime95 again. Not even with an aftermarket cooler.

According to: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i5/Intel-Core%20i5-2...
the i5-2400 has a max operating temp of 72.6
My i5-2500K (when it had a stock cooler) never hit anywhere near its max temp running prime95.
All Prime95 does to your processor is run it's cores at 100%

@Ali Omer
Once you are booted to Win7, if you have C1E enabled in BIOS and/or Win7 set to "Balanced" in Control Panel/Power Options, your processor will drop to lower frequency when idle. However, when you are still in BIOS that hasn't taken place yet. Therefore, your CPU will be at full speed/frequency. That is why the temp reads higher in BIOS than in Win7.

But 52C in BIOS and 42C in Win7 at idle is quite a bit warmer than normal. Check that the system is clean of dirt and dust. And check that the cooler is properly attached to the motherboard. Sometimes those push-pin feet don't open properly beneath the MB. The cooler might not be making good solid contact with the CPU.

I've never used a liquid cooler, so I'm probably not the best person to ask about that. But I have heard others state that unless you opt for a double radiator cooler, it probably won't be much better than a good air cooler.
