Ultra M998 case
Fx 4100
biostar 880g mobo
corsair XMS 4gb dim at 1600mhz
600 watt diablotek da series
XFX radeon 6790
WD 500 gb sata 6gb
liteon dvd burner

now for the price this system cost me 600-700 dollars. i think for the price i got some nice parts

2/10 You could have gotten much better parts for less. Not to rip on you, but:
BAD POWER SUPPLY
You could have gotten a better cpu+mobo (i3-2100+asrock z68 extreme 3 gen 3, or fx-4100 and 990fx board)
4gb of ram only?
Could have gotten a 6870.

are you joking? rofll ur prices are wrong. ive had this psu for a year and its pulled its weight for 30 bucks. i3 2100 is a nono i need more then a duel core and a 6870 is alot more then a 6790. plus with xfx u get a lifetime warranty with the 6790

Your PSU is probably running fine because you've not placed serious demands on it. Sooner or later you will, and then you'll be starting a thread called 'Rate my unique-looking doorstop'. Anyway...what have you done, taken it from an old system and put it into a new one (if you've had it for a year, and the FX-4100 is a lot newer)?

I'd rate your rig about 5/10. It'll run games, but not the newer ones at max settings, and that's before considering how it'll fare over the next 2-3 years. I'm guessing you'll need to upgrade sooner than you'd possibly like to.

Not good, PSU will blow up in your face if you're not careful. Sandy CPU would have been a heck of a lot better, (or even waiting for Ivy, seeing as it's about a month away [apparently]). 4GB of RAM? 6790, well, the 7xxx series is nearly complete, could have picked up a 7770 which would have smoked that, and been a lil bit more futureproof in the mean time. 3/10, competant, but not good.

Could have easily got an i5 2500k + Z68 mobo, a 7770, a 600-650w Corsair PSU, 4GB 1600 Corsair RAM (bump the overall price up to $670 for 8GB) 500GB 6GB/s HDD and a generic DVD burner for $650. That's not including the case, but I'm sure you can pick one up and keep under that $700 budget you had.

for 670? that wouldnt happen. i spent about 625 including tax and delivery... an i5 and mobo is atleast 300 right there. a 7770, i5 , mobo and a hardrive is 700 right there, even more. not including a psu, ram and dvd drive and case. the res i play at is nothing higher then 1600x900 i play all games on max with great fps. the 6790 performs surprisingly well i was expecting less when i first got it. this rig is not brand new either its about 6 months old. you have to include the tax and delivery on these items they dont just walk on there own 2 feet and arrive at your door

1/10

4100FX is junk you could have got a better Phenom II.

At that price how did you not have a 9xx series mobo?

I can find the parts for that rig at under £380 so less than $570 without really looking for bargains so you definitely overpaid.

Sorry to p*ss on your parade but you did ask.

*edit to add*.... if its 6 months old i suppose the price issue is lessened somewhat

Cores =/= Power
HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO EXPLAIN THIS!!!

i3 = Higher IPC = More power

The i3 is hyperthreaded and performs better than the FX series in most cases. I quite like the FX series for overclocking and I'm an old AMD fanboy, but the i3 is simply awesome.

4/10 - you know what parts go in a gaming PC. They're even matched pretty well on power. But you do not know how to shop.

Case is cheaply made and overpriced. Diablotek is cheaply made and the power grossly overestimated. Get 8GB RAM - it's $12 more. Don't even get me started on the FX-4100 - almost better to build a PC around an Athlon II. Also, the HD 6870 is the best bang-for-your-buck right now. You'll need to replace your new GPU in a year to play new releases on high settings.

the case is pretty solid actually. for a mid tower i wouldnt want any other case personally. i could crossfire the 6790 but i dont find a need to, skyrim is easily 60 fps and 50 in some towns, bf3 is easy to run on max. i had a i3 before and im no intel or amd fanboy but the i3 sucked, waste of money to buy an i3 games like skyrim and bf3 are meant to be played on a quad core. i3 is out

In that case you should have gotten a Phenom X3, console ports use 3 cores not 4 and it's more powerful.

And still perform worse than a phenom II X3.

For your build, i'd say about a 3/10 or 4/10.

As others stated, horrible selection on parts. You got some low quality parts mixed with average performing hardware. You could've done much better.

Before you start attacking us and defending your purchase.

DO TAKE HEED.

YOU ASKED US FOR OPINIONS AND WE GAVE YOU OUR OPINIONS.

In conclusion - bad build but could've been worse.

+1

It's not a particularly bad system. it'll just need some upgrading sooner than the OP will probably like. It's a shame to see someone spend a budget on one set of components, which performs worse than another set of components, and having spent more than they needed to as well. Such things are lessons made of.
