When I use the open file popup I would like to see the
files with details. I make the change, but the next time I
open a file it reverts back to the 'list' format. How can
I get the open file menu to stay in the 'details' format?
I have tried using the Folders option but that only seems
to work with Explorer and not the open file menu....

There is no way. Only Sort can be set by holding sown control in a folder window and clicking close on the titlebar, any folder window.
