Hello,

I have a 3(ish) year old Dell XPS with an i7 920 @2.67ghz (Never OC'd)

I really want to have a go at building a gaming rig, and was wondering if I could use that CPU and build a rig around it?
I've flirted with a few things on newegg, and with CPU in hand it opens the wallet for other components.

So, can you recycle CPU's and if yes... Should you?

i7 920 is a great chip and one of the most overclockable in history. At stock, performance is not bad but nothing special. But at 4 GHz it offers near Sandybridge performance. Honestly, for gaming, there's no benefit whatsoever in buying a new CPU if you already have a 920.
