Approximate Purchase Date: This week or next at the latest

Budget Range: $500-$600

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Surfing the web, watching movies, word processing, some gaming.

Parts Not Required: Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, Microcenter.

Country: USA

Parts Preferences: Doesn't Matter

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050

Additional Comments: I've build gaming computers before but I've never really build just a cheaper one. This one is for my parents to replace their ancient computer. My dad does a little gaming but not a lot. Nothing like BF3 or Skyrim etc. Thought I would get some opinions on it.

Not really sure what way to go for a cheaper build like this. Would AMD or Intel be the better way to go? I tried looking around but if anyone has some opinions?

Thanks in advance!!!!

I upgraded my old computer with an AMD Llano build recently for the purposes you list in System Usage, and I'm very satisfied with it's performance. The integrated graphics should handle easily whatever games your dad plays.

Not sure if you have a copy of Windows for this build

Also not sure if you have an old hard drive lying around that you can reuse so I'm not going to list one. If your parents don't have a lot of data that needs to be stored, now probably wouldn't be a bad time to get a SSD. Don't have much experience with SSDs so can't really recommend one either. Maybe someone else can recommend one if you decide to go that route =D
