Memory problems

Hello,
I messed up my memory I have windows 7 64 and i took out a memory stick to see what the numbers were to buy some more. While putting it back in the computer I didn't get it but in all the way. And the computer started beebing Now I have only 2 gb of ram instead of 8gb showing on the how much Ram i have screen. The computer is a dell desk top xps 9100

I had to take it to a computer repair place and they said the motherboard had to be replaced
