Reactivating windows 7

I have just replaced a bad motherboard with the same board in an hp pravilion p6653 desktop which is running an oem windows 7 version. It recognizes the motherboard as new hardware and begins startup however fails and starts boot up again. I know I will probably have to contact microsoft and get a new startup key to reactive the windows with the new board. I do not want to reinstall and lose all my current data, could not back up before due to new board. Where do I get this new number and how do I set it up

More about reactivating windows
  1. oems are usually tied to the original motherboard they are purchased with. its what seperates oem copies to retail copies when it comes to price.
  2. I have just replaced a bad motherboard with the same board < OEM is fine as long as it's the same or equal board.

Best bet is a fresh install , then use the automated phone activation method.
