Hello,
I have recently rebuilt my computer, completely new parts...except for the: PSU,GPU,CPU
All other parts have been replaced, new ssd, ram, mobo etc.
Now before I had these random game crashes, the sound plays over and over and the game closes. catalyst pops up a window saying "display driver crashed".

The new parts have not fixed it, and since games installed on a new harddrive on a new OS still crash, logically(I think) it must be one of the parts I didn't replace that is causing it.
In january I will be spending 2-3 hundred dollars on an upgrade part, I need to know if it should be the GPU or the CPU. I have AM3+, so I will either be getting a Radeon HD6950 or a 8 core FX CPU. Which will fix the problem?

I need more to go on if you want me to make the call.

Please start by listing the maker and model and approximate age of all the parts you are currently using. The age of the 3 parts you didn't change is important specifically.

My gut feeling at this point is that it is a PSU problem most likely, GPU problem next most likely, and CPU problem least likely.

There are things I will ask you to test to try to better determine your problem child after you list your specs.

Awesome, thanks for replying!

Ok, I'm taking it all from newegg history here goes:

PSU, link: http://bit.ly/hBrB1 , age: approx 4 years
GPU, link: http://bit.ly/adGXYH , age: approx 1 year
CPU, link: https://bitly.com/ , age: 9 months: cooled from day one with a cooler master hyper 912 with arctic silver paste

New parts, all arrived November 24th

Mobo: http://bit.ly/vDXwCX
Master SSD: http://bit.ly/iobCHf
16gb ram: http://bit.ly/bhJoUp

Most of the links didn't work.

In any event, if the PSU is 4 years old the points more towards the PSU as the problem. All PSUs get old and many fail in 3 - 5 years.

Consider getting the PSU in my signature XFX Pro 650w Core, it should be about $60 after rebates.

That wouldn't bite much into the budget for January and may fix the problems you are experiencing.

It would be nice if you could borrow a newer PSU with about the same specs to test with before you buy anything, so if you can it would be a good idea to do so.

If it turns out that this doesn't fix it you can still get a 6950 in addition and come in under the 300 max budget.
