I have 2 copies of NFL 2K5 and 1 of MLB 2K5. I started playing NFL and
after a few months, I would play it, and there would either be freezes, or
disc read errors, so I bought it again thinking that it was just broken on
ebay for 5 bucks, and the same thing happened. Then I buy a brand new MLB
and after a month or 2, whenever I play, I have "disc read error"s and it
won't load. This is only happening for 2K5 games. Has anyone had similar
problems or advice on how to fix it. I've try to clean the discs but they
won't work either. Someone please help. Thanks.

Your laser is certainly dying. If the warranty is still applicable,
contact the "after sales service" where you bought it or Sony to make an
exchange.

I don't know why the lasers on these PS2s go out so quickly, Until a few
years ago my brother has been using the same CD player he had since 1981 and
it worked fine the whole time, no buttons came off, no connections went bad,
no parts of the display burned out. Just fine, he only got rid of it since
he had used it for so long, somwhere around 20 years. Granted I know little
about DVD vs CD lasers, maybe that has something to do with it.

There was a design flaw in the earlier models of the PS2 that allows dust
to build up around the laser mechanism. Eventually the dust interferes
with the alignment of the lasers, causing the problems.

Later models corrected this problem with a new mechanism and some other
slight design changes.

Later as in slim PS2 or later PS2s that make use of the HD?

Later PS2s that could use the HD, but before the slim-line model.

Oh, you are the other person besides me who bought it.
