Hello, Currently my PC wont start up.

Asus p8z68
EVGA GTX 570
I7 2600k

it has been working fine the past 2 or so months.

NOTHING has changed, i shut down my pc last night, woke up this morning and it will not post or boot or anything. blank display and CPU led is on.

ive tried removing RAM 2 and 4 slots ( CPU Cooler wont let me take out others atm )

what could have been the cause of this problem ?, i admit i had left my aircon on over night and my desk had a lite mist of water on it.

What could i try ? reseating the CPU, Each ram slot on its own, different power supply.

All help would be appreciated. not very nice having a pc break on xmas :( maybe someone can give me the present of fixing my PC! :)

kind regards Brad

edit: the computer does power on. but thats where it ends.

This is a good ref: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261145-13-read-posting-boot-problems

There are many things that could be going wrong. "edit: the computer does power on. but thats where it ends. " could be a bit more detailed.

When you power up can you get into BIOS? Does the video display? Do fans turn on? Can you hear a hard drive spin up?

The next steps you take are really different if the PC gets no power and can't POST vs. windows doesn't start.

Can you please reply with very detailed "I pressed the power button, I heard these beeps, I say this, i heard this fan, then it stopped in this config with this fan stillmoving but when i did that nothing happened" type of descriptions.

Upon pushing the power button. the screen stays blank ( not even dimmed back light if you know what i mean )
the board does not beep instead it shows lights to indicate the propblem. the only light visible is the CPU.
i cannot POST, i have tried a different screen. i have tried onboard graphics + different graphics card.
i have taken the components out the case to ensure there is no short. i have tested with a different power supply aswell as reseated the CPU.

All fans/video cards fan/psu fan/cpu fan start up.

i have tried reseting the CMOS ( Jumpers + removing battery )

i cannot test another CPU/Board as the LGA's are different.

with all these attempts at trying to fix it nothing happens and the only indication of a problem i have is the CPU LED is on.

and in regards to that post almost all those issues will only arise on first start up. this is after the computer has been working for around 2 months with no problems what so ever.

With the computer just CPU (with CPU fan connected to CPU fan header), MB and PSU, no memory, no PCI card, no mouse, keyboard, etc or anything else: is the BIOS signalling bad CPU or bad memory ?

If BIOS tells you bad CPU and you tried different PSU in this config then you have a bad MB or bad CPU. Pins on CPU/MB look OK after you removed and reset heat sink ? CPU fan definitely connected to CPU fan header ? Both CPU power connectors firmly in the MB? IF so I think thats a bummer -- but I am not a hardware specialist.

Could you explain what you mean by "almost all those issues will only arise on first start up"

SOMEONE 2nd opinion PLEASE.

Aside: I7 2600k has a good long warranty.

Aside2: Now might be a good time to contact Asus MB support and have them walk you through debugging MB fails.

EDIT: This is an interesting post http://www.overclock.net/t/1116636/asus-p8z68-deluxe-q-code-58-cpu-self-test-failed-or-possible-cpu-cache-error See if there is a specific slot you must use on your MB if you only have one dimm. Memory erros seem to be coming up as CPU fails.

"Update: Found a solution in another forum:
The memory controller is integrated in the cpu (i5 2400) and if the memory makes problem the cpu selftest failed and the 58 error occur. So I tried one memory module in different slots and voula: If the memory is installed in slot 4 the pc boots normally. It don't solves my problem because I can use only 12 of 16GB RAM now, but its good to know that the cpu isn't bad."
