Xfx 9800gtx+ only works on second slot x8

Hello,
im about to purchase a hd 6950 and thought i would insert/restore my xfx 9800gtx+ to my old machine.

xfx 750i
ace raw 520w
4 gb crucial 800mhz
e8400 @ 3ghz
9800gtx+, its been running a 9400gt just for image for a while with no problems.

When i insert my 9800gtx i get 1 long and 2 short beeps. Im using different 6 pin cables than on my new rig.The card works on the second slot x8 but i get artifacts in sc2..
Any help is appreciated.

first determine the meaning of the beeps from your mobo manual .

Video configuration failure (a faulty video card or no card installed) or an external ROM module does not properly checksum to zero

check the pins of the first slot , although i dont think what you can do to repair them anyway . if the card works in second slot , the card is fine for sure

What pins? when i insert the 9400gt it works flawlessly, but i dosnt have a 6 pin input.
btw i have a green light on 9800gtx+...

i am using this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Compupack-A001-W011-RS1-Molex-PCI-Express-adapter-/290401369398 and the other has no brand but there is a cable in all 6 pin holes..
