Hi all, I have what appears to me as a strange issue, I recently upgraded my old 5770 to a GTX 580 (yesterday) and I installed it with the 285.62 drivers from nvidia and now my resolution is correct but when I boot up it goes through the BIOS flash screen, shows the "Starting Windows" and then goes blank when switching to the blue windows "welcome" screen. I can hear the welcome tone windows makes but don't receive a picture until I switch the input on my monitor to something else and then back to my pc. After that everything runs fine and in the proper resolution.

This also happens when launching Crysis 2 in full screen, but not in windowed. I can launch L4D2, SC2, F3AR, Rage, Portal 1 & 2, and TF2 fine in full screen without it requiring me to switch inputs and then back to my pc input.

Current setup:
750w psu
I7 2600k @ stock (switched from 4.4 when this issue started)
1920x1080 resolution monitor
ASUS p8z68-v motherboard (BIOS 0801)
EVGA GTX 580
16gb gskill DDR3
Seagate Barracuda SATA 6/g
Windows 7 Home

I have also uninstalled all my old ATI drivers and the CCC.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Did you uninstall the amd drivers and software first? If not, you may have remnants of that code.
There are some driver cleaners you can download that will get rid of stuff.
Here is a link to one:

Ok, I tried rolling my drivers back to a previous version with no luck when I rebooted. I also downloaded the driversweeper but as far as I could tell it didn't detect any amd drivers under Uninstall Drivers>Display Drivers.

Other then this problem I feel like this card way out performs my old one after playing crysis on ultra/extreme and rage for a couple hours but even though it is usable I would like to still get this little annoyance fixed.

Thanks for the suggestions so far :)  more would be awesome if you have an idea.

Call EVGA support, they should be very good. There are so many good GTX580 installs out there . There should be a fix. There are some firmware fixes out there for the GTX580 for fan speeds, perhaps this issuee is fixed also.

So I've been using a 32in 1920x1080 since I bought these computer components in June (except the GTX 580 (bought this week)) and this is my old television designed as such so it only has a 60hz refresh rate with a VGA pc hook up, which I was using with my 5770, however, using the DVI-to-VGA adapter I found this issue with the 580. Now, since switching to the mini-HDMI>HDMI adapter and using HDMI as my primary output from the EVGA GTX 580 I have found this issue no longer exists.

I don't currently have a DVI compatible monitor as I sold it to a friend so I can't test without using a DVI-to-VGA adapter (tried two different adapters)... and thus, my question now is: Would you still call EVGA support for help? Or assume the display I'm using doesn't like my new component seeing it wasn't designed as a monitor?

I also have plans for a SSD and new display before Christmas so now it becomes an issue of determining if my new card is working properly or not... input is welcome :)
