First off I am looking for a very capable gaming desktop. I have a line of credit with Dell and I will be purchasing through them. I know that building a gaming rig myself would be the best option but that is not possible right now. So with that in mind I have built an XPS 8300 with the following Specs, I have found multiple coupons and am getting a member discount which brings the price to $983 with monitor and free shipping.

DELL XPS 8300
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English
Intel® Core™ i7-2600 processor(8MB Cache, 3.4GHz)
8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs
ST2220L 21.5-inch Full HD Widescreen Monitor
Single AMD Radeon™ HD 6870
500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
THX® TruStudio PC™
2 Year Basic Support

So I just wanted to know what everyone thought, is this a good gaming desktop for the price. I'm looking to hopefully play modern games at max settings at no more than 1920x1080 resolution.

you will not be able to max out all games at 1080.. upgrade the video card is possible

Unfortunately that is the highest GPU offered on this system. With that in mind how would games look on a 22" monitor at say 1600x900, I am pretty sure the GPU can handle just about all games at that resolution maxed out.

Also do you feel this is relatively a good deal?

you should be able to get 30+fps on average at 1600x900 with max settings.
