Can Asus P8z77-v-deluxe MB run 2 dimm (2x8) at 16 gb memory

Hello All,

My first PC build, I purchased an Asus P8z77-V-Deluxe MB with Curucial Ballastix Sport kit (2x8GB) 16GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) CL9 @ 1.5v. I'm ready to start my build, after looking through the MB Qualified Vendor list of supported memory modules I don't see any that are 2x8 they are either (4x4 16GB) or (2x4 8GB). I went to ASUS home page looking to find a master approved listing but could not find one. I'd rather not open the package if it is not supported or will not run.

My question is what do other builders use in building ASUS MB systems? Does it matter if they are not approved vendors?

Thank you for the reply. Being new to computer building I'm still not clear, the manual states (4x4) 16GB or (2x4) 8GB. I purchased (2x8) 16GB. After looking through all section's of different memory none are mentioned @ (2x8). But thanks again.. this could be a long build.

Need to be spoon fed, eh? Chapter 2 of your motherboard manual; page 6, under Memory configurations:

"You may install 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB unbuffered and non-ECC DDR3 DIMMs into the DIMM sockets."

Thanks TT, already went back to MicroCenter and picked up (4x4) 16GB. The rep that waited on me there said the same thing. I plan to start with 4x4 then maybe once everthing is up and running will install 2x8 modules and see what happens.

Again thanks for shooting me the electronic copy of my manual..

Wife says I'm crazzy to try this project, we'll see!
