Will the ram work

Hello i have a M3N78 mother board by asus and has 4gb ddr2 800mhz corsair ram i was hoping to upgrade to 16gb corsair ddr3 8 x 2 kit and was wondering if it will work i know 16gb is overkill but i want to splash out on the computer and its an ok deal

Using System information for windwos in the memory section it say maximum is 8192 i suppose thats my answer but maybe if i update my bois?
