My friend has the router Netgear WGR614v9 and I was trying to send a file over AIM to them but it wont. I can send files to my Bro so my end works. my friend can send files to me but they cant get mine, is the router blocking the downloads and do they need to add a port forward or something like that

IIRC, you wouldn't normally need to open ports on the router for AIM. But if your friend is having problems, it might be a *local* firewall that’s preventing it (e.g., Windows, Norton, McAfee). Have him either temporarily disable the firewall or open the ports needed by AIM (5190-5200). If it still doesn’t work, perhaps it is the router’s firewall (as unusual as that might be). In that case, have him forward those same ports to his PC.

they have Vista Home version. Its just weird how they can send me a file over AIM but they cant receive my file over AIM.

Firewalls are the most common problem, wherever they might reside, router or locally.

I will talk her through adding through the windows firewall first, and see if that helps her out. Fast replys, must be a strong community here. First day here for me

Thanx for the amazing quick responses. The firewall has an exception for AIM and it works now.
