Is the corsair 700w gaming psu sufficient for my build and oc?

I got the asrock extreme 4/i5 2500k combo, gskill sniper series 17000 8 gigs, and an hd 7870. My plans are to oc the i5 to around 4.8-4.9 with the h60 cooler, mildly oc the graphics, and as for the ram, i'm not too sure about it as i've never oc'd ram before. I had the i7 920 c0 stepping so my oc on that was very mild and I never thought to bother with oc'ing the ram.

Plenty, also 4.8-4.9 is too much for the H60 to handle. I would invest in a better cooler or settle for a lower overclock.

a decent 500-550 would have done it easy

thanks for the info i'll probably get the 700 since its cheaper than a 600 at best buys atm and i'll probably lower the clock speed oc as well.

The OC of the i5 2500K to 4.8 + is NOT RECOMMENDED. I have the i5 2500K in the ASRock Extreme 6 (P67) and it starts to show instability at 4.6 GHz. In any case the increased performance of 5% will shorten the MTBF by 50% +.

If you need to OC then use the ATXU and ramp up the speed when needed and declock it when you don't. A lower clock rate with lower voltage also puts you at less risk for electric migration and failure on the CPU and mobo. You will also preserve your system. My normal OC is 4.2 GHz and my CPU runs cool using the Antec 920. The only great performance gain in gaming for extreme OC CPUs are in things flight sims. Most gains in gaming come from the GPU.

OC'ing the Gskill Sniper RAM is easily done in the BIOS. Just go to OC'ing in the BIOS and select RAM. It will allow you to use the native profile or one of two alternatives: 1600 or 2133. Choose the 2133. Your ATXU will show the RAM to be in the warning range (actually in more than the cool range), but this is normal. I have been running the Gskill Sniper at this setting for over 2 months now and nary a hiccup.

700W will probably do 2x 7870s so yeah it's fine

dont listen to these nay sayers about sandybridge at 4.9 ghz. it all comes down to luck of the draw. i have my sandybridge 100 percent stable, never crashes or bluescreens at all @ 4.9ghz. i can go higher even.

if u end up with a cherry cpu itll do 4.9 easy. from what ive read its only about 10 to 15 percent of the cpus that go that high, stably and easily. you are looking at about 4.5ghz for 50 percent of the sandybridge cpus out there

Talking about 4.9ghz with the H60.

Thx for all the info! Well I just bought/rented corsair gs700psu and will probably oc it the 2500k to 4.3 on my h60. Oh yeah and im saying rented because i noticed the corsair 750 enthusiast series is alot cheaper. Would that be a better buy without any noticeable loss of performance? I play wow and will be playing the new cs and d3.

Sorry for the excessive nooby/lazy/why dont i just research it on the forums myself question, this will be my last question. But I'm a student veteran struggling to graduate school this quarter, so I spend my free time studying accounting and asking the you pros and veteran enthusiasts for info on w/e time I have left. For anyone who is running my setup or knows about my setup:

-Asroc Extrem 4 mobo
-I5 2500k h60 cooled cant upgrade cooler just spent $900 on parts and I already had the h60 from previous setup only 2 months old
-Gskill sniper series pc2133 8 gigs
sapphire 7870 oc edition actually not planning to touch the oc on this

What is the fastest clock speed that I can run stable, w/o having to mess with the voltage and having to run stability programs ie prime. I will be monitoring temps with hwuid. Once again thanks so much for the help guys hopefully once I'm done with school I'll be better knowledged and be able to contribute as well.

probably 4.4 or less with little to no change on voltage

i did it when i first got my cpu (i have the same board and cpu) but cant remember my results. i remember being pretty impressed though.

i dont know how capable or not your cooler is, im using my true120 from my old socket 775 setup. not sure how they compare

I suggest either the Tx750 or HX750 <----actually outputs 900W!
