Firmware Help

Having just tried to upgrade the Firmware in my Yamaha CRW2100E with a little bad luck, the upgrade tool fell over in the middle of the process. I now as a result have a dead drive, is there anything I can do to recover from this. Any tricks of the trade that I can apply to get the drive back to a state where I can flash it again ?

Can't you reflash it again?

Try a DOS based flashing tool to flash the firmware.

juanmi,

Had hoped for a little more constructive comments. Yes I have tried to reflash, first thing I tried. There are no DOS based flash tools for the Yamaha. And yes I did search before posting.

Please dont jump to the conclusion that everyone is an idiot and just wasting your time.

Posting was a last resort to having to purchase another.

Hey take it easy - it's just that now I am the idiot and I don't know what to do about your problem.

There must be a way to solve it, without purchasing a new one.

As it will be under warranty, you could return it if you have no hopes to solve the firmware problem (it's immoral but it should work).

Which message does the program give you when you try to reflash? No recorder found maybe?

There are dos based tools for other versions of the yamaha. Maybe these utilities will allow you to flash yours.

Just try using the old dos based firmware updating tool with the .bin file you downloaded.

I'm gonna try to find the atinst file somewhere.

Have you already contacted yamaha (but don't give them too many personal data or the serial of your burner)?

If you feel there's nothing left to loose, just tell me and I will email you a dos based flashing utility for yamaha drives, and the firmware for the CRW2100E. As I've got a Plextor I don't know if it will work.

You will need to make a boot disk and add the files there. Remember to read the readme.txt, it was intended for other yamaha drives, even if the readme refers to one particular drive, the .exe is generic, it may work with yours, just tell it he proper ide channel and if your unit is master or slave.

Dammit, I am gonna post it in my web site for you...

Please tell me once you have downloaded it as I think the geocities policy does not allow you to store files.
