which cheap and best graphic card ?

I have a AMD Athlon XP2000+ processor
a 160 gb hard disk
a crt monitor with a refresh rate of 60hz
and in the display adapter properties it shows the graphic memory is somewhat 64mb
and a 32 bit os
i know tht the pc is quite old and i am currently not having much money to spend
in my pc win xp works alright but windows 7 enterprise is a crank
the aero effects dont work and media center also doesnt work well
the computer is good for basic tasks but crashes on even with light gaming the latest game that works is NFS most wanted and almost all the games released after 2005 dont work watching videos is also a bad experience please tell me a upgrade for my pc

or a new monitor.........
i am not a hardcore gamer but atleast such simple things should go on smoothly
and my pc dealer said that win7 wouldnt run on ur pc but even then i bought the enterprise and installed it but most of the feature dont work with the error-Incompaitble video card

What video card do you currently have? If you're 7 or more generations behind, then this makes sense. Whether you have AGP or PCI-express will also determine what you can get. The GeForce 7600 GT, the card I have, is when AGP was at it's end - PCI-express was almost completely the new standard. If your motherboard only has AGP for video cards (usually 4x/8x), then you may be out of luck. If you have PCI-express x16, then you could very well have a GeForce GTX 590 or something but that costs several hundred dollars.

Edit: I forgot to mention that you may have issues with a high-powered video card with that system if your power supply is incapable of supporting it or doesn't have enough watts, especially amps on the +12V rail.

Well, we must know exactly what's inside your PC, I mean all specs, you can open the case and see it for yourself or, use CPU-Z:

If you're going to use a PC that is 10 years old you can't expect to run new games or windows 7. Your system is so old it's not worth upgrading, your motherboard won't support new CPU's or graphics cards or modern ram, and you likely have an old IDE hard drive as well. You can find good deals on used dell PCs on ebay if you can't afford to build a new one, even a 4 or 5 year old PC would be a huge step up from what you have.

If I recall, Windows 7 demands something like 640 to 1024 MB of RAM just to run optimally, so you've got only 512 MB, then Windows 7 will be extremely slow due to extensive swapping (extra memory overflow gets sent to the hard drive which seriously slows things down).

Not to mention the power supply being possibly 200 watts and incapable of supporting any of the modern stuff. Besides, you can buy brand new low end computers that are much more capable than a 10-year-old system for $500, or even less, that can easily handle Windows 7 and games from 2008 and earlier (the games part I can't verify - the newest game I have for the computer, not counting the one I'm making, is Midtown Madness 2, a very old game).

Your at a loss really mate, you need to start saving up for a new computer.

Dude, That's an AGP system. There were no PCI-E boards for socket A.


Anyway find out what motherboard you have, then see if it has overclocking options, what the maximum amount of memory is, and see if it has any issues with high powered AGP cards. Cards newer than a GeForce 3 were known to cause problems in some Socket A boards that didn't properly follow AGP standards. I found that out first hand when I tried to put a Radeon 8500 in an ePox 8kha+. Anyway, if your motherboard has an 8x AGP slot and it doesn't have any issues with AGP cards you could drop on an AGP 4670, though a Radeon 3650 or 2600XT AGP would probably make more sense.

Understand that any decent AGP card is going to be more expensive than a PCI-E version. Also look up your PSU and replace it if you feel it may have trouble with a newer graphics card. Don't do something crazy like hook up a Radeon 3850 AGP to a 300W PSU.

I should also ad that it's only worth upgrading the CPU IF your motherboard takes at least an XP 3000+ AND you can find one cheap on ebay. Be aware that there are two versions of the chip, one with a 333 FSB and one with a 400MHz FSB. Don't go buying the 400MHz FSB version if your motherboard only supports a 333 FSB.

Ah yes I forgot to mention that there are some socket 939 and socket 754 Athlon 64s that are marked at Athlon 60 3000+. Don't confuse it with the Athlon XP 3000+ which is completely different :D
