I recently came across this ancient monitor that has these round plug ins in addition to the vga out it has one for v-sync, hs/cs/ blue, green, and red. they are round metal plugs with a pin type thing in the middle. never seen them before. the thing also has a com port... I tried plugging it in and nothing. supposedly it works I think I just don't have the cables. this thing is huge tho it says 20in but that MUST be wrong. I think if I put it on my desk it would break lol I wanna get this running if I can but till then it makes a nice foot stool... any ideas on how to get her running?

aparently this is what I need. Why does it have a vga connector...if it doesn't work...and what the hell is the com port for? it is a ctx 2085 20in monitor weighing 75lbs! haha max resolution is 1600x1200 not to bad considering. made in '96 so I need a 5bnc connector to make it work I gotta look for one of those.

Note that you probably want to look up the specs for the monitor. It could be a fixed frequency monitor. That means either you need a special card designed for it, or you need to know if your graphics card can work with it. I'm not sure if a variable frequency card can be made to safely work with a fixed frequency monitor.

yes I had thought about that, I looked around but I'm not sure if it is fixed frequency or variable. not much info.

It looks like this IS a multisync monitor from what I can dig up - you just need a 5bnc to male HD15 cable and you're set! Cool, huh?

some specs I found. I'm kinda wondering if the vga port and the "COM" port are output ports of some sort. Instead of it being a COM port it could be an older EGA port.

no it's labled com port on the back of the monitor. the other one is a vga port also it is labled video port. I am going to buy the 5bnc cable one of these days if I can only scrap some extra cash together, if anyone has an old cable they don't use I would gladly pay shipping if you would be willing to give me it. I'm kinda short on cash.

I threw my 20" away. I got it for free at my school since they were going to throw it out. It lasted for a while but then the red went out. Yes they weigh a lot. I think mine was 80 lbs and it was from 1995.

Get the cable that has the different colors. I forget exactly, but black, red, green, and blue sound right.

For a free cable, go to your local university and ask around in their computer science department (or any department for that matter) on what they've got and are throwing away. If you're nice they might hook you up.

Put it at the corner of your desk so that it's reinforced. Otherwise, depending on your desk, it will bow or break it.
