i say get another HD 6950 and crossfire it and save your money ..
or get an HD 6970 and crossfire it with your 6950 .. that will give you more power ..
but sure you will need to upgrade your power supply and have a crossfire motherboard
but . . if you like to keep your 6950 and want to get a card with $350 .. a gtx 570 will be best.
but you will not notice a big different in gaming .. you currently card will play BF3 at all high settings with AA4
but the gtx 570 will maxout the game .. all ultra !! ;)

How would he be saving money buying two 6950s for crossfire :sarcastic:. Hes getting a refund on his current 6950 due to failure.

Don't take any notice of this idiot. You can not crossfire two different graphics cards. Why do people attempt to give advise when they don't have a clue what they're talking about.

His current card is broken....

I would recomend the GTX 570. Also which Coolermaster 650W PSU do you have?

@ Pro gamer, HD 6950/70 GTX 570/60TI all maxed out the game, 40 FPS on Ultra with HD 6950 is playable and the game runs smoother without any lag as you said.
Even with my 4.0 GHz OC and my HD 6950 OC, i achieve higher FPS reaching 58 FPS.
16X AF max, 4X MSAA, what are you saying?

HD 6970> GTX 570, but nVidia cards tend to work better with some specific games.
To illustrate more, mostly in "The way it's meant to be played" logo games.

You are very misinformed pal. Judging by your avatar and the "Future is Fusion" below it I'm guessing your an AMD fanboy, so that explains it.

The 6970 is not better then the 570

nice! now @ ilysaml look at the benchmarking see its clearly show with maxed gtx570 gaining 49.25 where as hd 6950 got 39.33 hah! and you are saying that i am running at x16AF and x4MSAA even with your 1055t and you getting 58fps how strange!

that's what i told you hd 6950 can maxed out bf3 but in some heavy battle fps dip to 20 or 28fps where gtx 570 stay with high fps even in heavy battle.now the @ OP can guess that which one is better i vote for gtx570.

If you read the article that was posted last week you will see that actually the Radeon cards outperform the GeForce cards except for when MFAA is turned on because DICE worked with Nvidia to develop that style of Antialiasing.

That being said, the 570 is a step above the 6950 on Toms chart, here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-performance-radeon-geforce,3018-7.html in an article from last month. If you go with a 6970, that card is equivalent to the 570.

Personally, I have a 6950 and I run ultra settings with MFAA turned off and run between 45 and 60 FPS (60 is what I have Fraps limited to) and im very happy with that.

I am not sure about that, ilysaml did say he had his card OC'd, which I dont. Im running mine at the standard 800/1250 factory settings. I did try turning on the MFAA just to see and it felt like my GPU got a punch in the stomach, so I turned it back off. I didnt see much difference between the two anyways, so im not worried about it.

Honestly, im have absolutely no issues as far as FPS goes...the only thing that ever bugs me is server lag and it seems like it is only on a few select maps (Tehran Highway is the worst.)

@ gothems finest,
That's normal for me to hear that from a guy that said
You can not crossfire two different graphics cards.
meaning the HD 6950/70
Why do people attempt to give advise when they don't have a clue what they're talking about.
I agree with you in that, because i'm embarrassed that you're here giving such advises.

GTX 570 and HD 6970 perform neck to neck, Again "Depending On The Game"
Some games run better on AMD cards such as Dirt 2/3, Deus Ex HR, Shou Gun 2, Aliens VS Predators
Some games perform better on nVidia cards such as Crysis 2, Metro 2033, Far Cry 2,....
If you noticed and have experience, the games i listed for the AMD side some of them has the logo "AMD GAMING EVOLVED" and the other have been in conferences and reviews by AMD itself.

The games i listed for nVidia side have"THE WAY IT'S MEANT TO BE PLAYED" thus explains how they perform with nVidia cards.
I don't care who bribes who i care only about the overall performance.
Giving a glance on the performance of HD 6970 in higher resolutions

perfrel_1920.gif

The GTX 570 lags and cracks in higher resolution Due to VRAM issues, and this will be an issue with VRAM hungry games and high resolutions.

I'm a fan of AMD in person, i give her my recommendations to the better no bias at all, and even i recommended the GTX 570 in the first place.

@ dalmvern,
1055T @ 4.0 GHz, Core clock @ 915, Memory clock @ 1375 i said reaching 58 FPS, i'm not getting a constant 58 FPS.
ranging between 43-58 FPS, it differs from location to another (different shadows, effects and bla bla ) and yes with everything at max (4X MSAA, 16X AF)

Yeah, as I said above, im running factory clocks at around those FPS but when I used 4xMSAA it dropped me a good 10-15 FPS, but with it overclocked like yours im sure it makes those up.

I understand that you were talking about the 6950, but I was saying you arent comparing similar cards. Comparing a 570 to a 6950 is like comparing at 560Ti to a 6970...the 6970 is clearly the better card in that case just as the 570 is clearly the better card versus a 6950.

The reason I like the Radeon cards better is because of the higher VRAM...when games start coming out that require more than 1.5 GB of VRAM those GeForce cards will get bogged down. I like the future proofing. In another year or so a 570 SLI build will be blown out of the water by a 6950 Crossfire build simply for the fact that the 6950s will still have 2 GB of VRAM and games will probably require more than the 1.2 GB the 570 has to offer.

Granted, if you are going to buy a new card each time a new series comes out, then that wont matter, but I like getting my money's worth for my cards.

So I guess to get back on topic, in response to the OP, I would suggest getting a 6970 with the bit of extra cash you are willing to throw at it to give your build a little bit of future proofing, of course unless you plan on upgrading the card whenever Nvidia comes out with their new series of cards.
