Here is what is already ready to go and what we are working on.

The LAN in December was only going to be for physical bodies but one of our fellow THGC members, Svol, asked a question about getting a server to run games for those of you that cannot attend due to geographic location.

We want to attract as many as possible to the event. That is just something that we have to work out yet. It might not be a reality but I am going to try my hardest to get it happen.

I am trying to get a local microwave company to donate a mobile connection to the Internet for us. I am also talking to someone at the local Cable provider to see if they would be willing to donate a connection. Even if it is a triple cable connection it would allow for around 10MBs. (Not glamorous but it would work.)

As for the website that will have live video leads so those of you playing can see who fragged you and whom you fragged. I don't know if we will be able to get feeds back from those that participate from across the WWW to connect in. Everything about the event will be on this site.

The US Army Reserves that will be in attendance. We will have Hummers and cots on site. A few soldiers for help. We will be setting up some stuff inside for them. We will try to get them to bring copies of their America's Army Game as well. Inside the venue location it will look like boot camp.

We have prizes and we are still contacting vendors for more loot for winners.
The cost will be $20 for prepaid and $25 at the door. (A 2-day event with prizes for $20-25. Nice Deal!)

The contests that we are running for sure at this point will be:

A. The 4 tournaments: (As listed above)

1. Counterstrike
2. UT or UT2003
3. War Craft III
4. Quake III

B. Case Modding

C. Farthest Traveled

One we have not decided on is:

D. Overclocking (Overall Performance)

E. Miscellaneous.

There will be raffles and door prizes.

We have an Aluminum Case with a window from USitek. Greg from New England LAN Party might send us a LAN Party Case for a prize as well. (This one depends on if he can get them back from manufacturing…it is his design.)

It looks like there will be Cash Prizes for the single player tournements.

The guys that did up the case for Ultra Unreal, Crazy Paint, will also be sending some things. We know of one case for sure. WWW.CrazyPaint.Com

One of the vendors will be sending us case mode stuff, power supplies, and other equipment for people's rigs as prizes.

We also have been contacted by some equipment suppliers to get their products displayed and given away as prizes. I'll keep you posted on the who and the whats.

Sang over at Powmax / Asound is going to send us fans, t-shirts, PSUs, and few other goodies.

We also have a 17 inch Viewsonic Monitor as well.

There are a lot of other things that we are talking about, but this is all that I can share with you at this time.

Again, here's the deal in a nutshell. If we make this Buffalo LAN work the way we are trying to plan it... it will be proof to Omid and Tom to "Fully" sponsor the "Tom-Con" idea that David Stellmack has already proposed. That along with the Poll results should make the really big TC event a reality.

Your support is vital to all of our success. So when the poll is up... Take it.

I am going to see if David can get the okay this time for a press release on the main THG site. (I am still waiting on the response from Omid to David.)

If you have suggestions please PM me to share. Maybe we can make it come true.

Note: IF there are any other LAN Party groups in the Toronto, Rochester, Erie PA, etc areas... Please contact me to get in on this. All we are looking to do is make a really huge event. If you want you LAN's name on the ticket I have no problems with that. PM me so we can talk. That is more PR for your group and everyone else. I will be contacting the news, net news sites, TV, etc. to cover the event. I want to leave exclusive rights to THG for whatever they want. If you work for an organization that would want representation... PM me. Or have your company or organization's head contact me.

Thanks for all of your help:

This one is already a go. We are trying to have a huge one in Columbas Ohio next year. I am meeting with Todd from Fragnation Thursday night to talk about details. So far we will likely have a few of the following at the party.

Sponsors:

Kingston Thechnology

US Itek

Bawls(tm) Guarauna

The site is still TBD. It will depend on the number of people that show.

We are working on having a bunch or US Army stuff at the Party. A recruiter will be there and hopefully will have America'a Army Game CD-ROMs to hand out. Walking into a LAN Party with APCs and Hummers on either side of you makes a great gateway.

Prizes:

An Aluminum Case

Games

Networking stuff

We are trying to get more things there. That is why we are getting together on Thursday.

What I need help with is promotion of this one across the community and beyond. So if you can make it please come. If you can't please broadcast this to everyone you know without spamming.

Sounds really kick arse! Too bad I can't make it. :(
Still, I'll promote it with my sig. :)

And if you get them Army guys to show up in BDUs, hopefully one will show up with an M-16. If one does, ask him to show you how one is disasselbled and reassembled. It's pretty neat. :)

Svol,

I know guys like you and PooBaa can't make things like this. However maybe the good Dr. Tom might be able to have something in Europe and Auzzie-land. I will not help plan that one unless someone pays my expenses. All I ask from my international friends is that you help me promote it to the people in the US.

I'd love to make it, but being on an Island on the other side of the continent makes it a bit difficult.

In a world without walls or fences , what use have we for Windows or Gates.

Maybe you and Fatburger can have one in Seattle. Since you are in BC and he is Portland, Oregon. I know it is a bit of a haul to ferry off the island but it could be cool.

It is going to be in a suburb of Buffalo. Probably in Amherst, at UB (University at Buffalo), or in West Seneca.

That part is still up to the response that we get before Nov. 2nd.

As for the being held in Toronto I don't think FN will want to go up there - 2 hours away. I do know of groups from Toronto that have come in the past. You could hitch a ride with them or bring your own group. Hit the Fragnation web site for more details. They are the ones who are basically hosting it. We are just a part of the show and their party makes a great place for us to congregate.

Svol,

I'll bring that up at my meeting with Todd tonight. I don't know what kind of broadband connection we will have.

Svol and all,

The choice of venue has not been selected. We need people to register for the LAN on the Fragnation website. If we know how many are going to attend that makes the venue choice easier.

If you are new to the Fragnation organization click here.

Also, I know that Fragnation would like people to prepay for the event either through Paypal or whatever other. (They have it listed on their site.) This forces people to commit to going. From an economical standpoint I totally agree with their logic. (Try planning a big event and get burned... It hurts in more than one way.)

If you would like to go!!!

Please Register and please Prepay for the event.

(It will make planning for it a lot easier for Todd, David, and myself. Thank you!!!)

Suggestion: set up a VPN server connection and people from other places can join and play remotely. I'd love to come, but I'm in Manitoba and making a road trip to Ontario for a lan just isn't practical. However, I have a very fast cable connection. If you make VPN possible you'll get lots of people from other places with good connections that can't make it in person. You could probably break 200 people counting VPN players.

Thanks for the support. I will update you when we get the go-ahead for a VPN.

Papa,

Try to hook up with Fatburger and icy_oblivion. Fatty is in Portland, OR and Icy is in Victoria BC. He's an challenge... If you can get a party of significant size in the north west I will see what we can do to link the two parties. It has never been done before, that I know of. But I leave the ball in your court to get something os substantial size. Even 50+ I would consider substantial. So do it and I will try to get it to go.

That goes for any other group. Contact me and I will see what kind of linkage we can get between LAN cells.

Cool, I will join if it is possible to play from here... and if I get my second gaming rig up and running a friend of mine can join too. I could try to set up a LAN party of around 5 people... but I don't think my cable connection will be able to run so much traffic.

If the LAN party is in a weekend there is a great chance I've time to join it.

The Fragnation site was updated with the new date. So if anyone registered, you need to reregister to show up on the registered page.

For those of you that are waiting on the internet accessability issue... Wait until I tell how and when to register. This registration is for physical bodies.

Yeah, I'd love to participate too, but I'm way out on the atlantic coast Canada, and I don't think my parents would like me going out to Buffalo to play games... If we have the option of playing online, that'd be awesome.

BTW, what'll we play? I'll have to get to practicing...

BTW, Dec 7th is Pearl Harbour Day and 2 days after my b-day!

...And all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put my computer back together again...

Reply to Chuck232

Basically...

UT, Quake, HL/Counter-strike, BF1942, JKII, etc. Whatever floats your boat. We will be having a few tourney's. That will depend on what people want to play. That date is still far enough away for us to plan that stuff out.

So where are you... NF? Take a boat down the St. Lawrence to the Welland Canal and over to Buffalo. hehe

For you and all,

I'll tell you more on the on-line side of things when that is finished. Not to be a "Hoser", but we need bodies first and then virtual attenders. The more we draw in both ways will be important. However Tom and Omid will want to see bodies so the sponsors will have better advertising and exposure for sponsoring a huge event. I hope this helps explain the logic.

This part is for free...

Something I learned from the financial world... "Follow the money!" It really does drive 99% of the decisions on the planet. Sad but true.

BTW:
When TC rolls around there could be a need for a left coast branch of it. Only time will tell.
